Well, here we are, nearing the end of another year spinning around the sphere of fire at the center of our solar system.
There is a part of me that looks back at the last 12 months and sees a blur of disconnected moments, but there’s another part that selectively edits out the challenges so I only see the good. I don’t know if this is naive or healthy. Maybe a little of both.
“It’s been a crazy year.” Yeah, but what year isn’t filled with craziness, joy, heartache, fear, and growth? Aren’t they all?
It sounds cheesy, but I try my best to live with gratitude at all times. And I mean that in the most sincere way. There are a million reasons to be sad, but we only need one to feel joy. I have more than one. In fact, I’ve got three living in my house (four if you count the dog). No matter what happens outside these walls, I have the three people who are the very fabric of my existence living and breathing close by. Not only that, I get to write stories and share them with you all. What a privilege.
Speaking of writing, here’s what I’ve managed to publish this year:
Turn Up the Sun - a collection of three novellas
Heavy Oceans - deluxe edition from Thunderstorm Books
Stridor - a novella
Heavy Oceans - a novel from Lethe Press
Carved in Salt - a chapbook from Rapture Publishing
Turn Up the Sun - limited, deluxe edition four volume set through my own Dark Room Press
Night of the Long Knives - a novel from Earthling Publications
Plus, I sold two short stories to publications/editors I’ve dreamed of working with. I sold a three novella collection to Dilatando Mentes Editorial to be published in Spain. I sold my novel Midas to Lethe Press, which will come out in June, 2025. I sold Depth Charge, a new novel being published by the wonderful Shortwave Publishing in 2026. I also finished the first draft of another novel called Full Fathom Five.
I got to be part of the very first Fracassi Fest in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I met so many amazing people I now consider friends.
So much to be grateful for, and that’s just on the writing side of things.
Thank you to everyone who has picked up these books and read these stories. Which brings me to what’s coming in 2025.
Patreon
After giving it a lot of thought, I’ve decided to launch a Patreon in January, 2025, and I’m doing everything I can to make it worthwhile for those who choose to support it.
There are a number of reasons to launch something like this, but my primary goal is to offer readers exclusive stories and books they won’t be able to get anywhere else. Here’s what it will look like:
Four tiers, ranging from $5 - $50
Exclusive short stories
Two exclusive chapbooks (Three in the highest tier)
A deluxe, limited edition hardcover of an unannounced book releasing next year, with bonus content special to this edition
A lettered edition of that book with an exclusive slipcase
Zoom calls
Art prints
Early access pre-orders and cover reveals
And all of this is just for year one. I already have some really cool plans for 2026. If you choose to support my Patreon, I can promise you we’ll have blast and you guys will end up with some really cool books.
This will launch officially the first week of January, and I’ll announce it here.
Night of the Long Knives
My new novel from Earthling Publications comes out this month, and as of right now there are still copies available. This deluxe hardcover edition is limited to 500 copies signed by me and Ronald Malfi.
Some early reviews are coming in, and I’d like to give a huge thanks to Anna over at FanFiAddict for this awesome review of the book:
“Written with the best true crime tones and merged with gnarly, epic consequences, Tyler Jones’s Night of the Long Knives is a formidable, macabre novel. In lesser hands, a plot of this advanced degree could easily fall short, spinning out into poorly maintained chaos. Yet, under Jones’s pen, Andy’s story advances with conviction and velocity, racing towards an inevitable doom that is packed with emotion. Crafted with the same DNA as fictional true crime stories such as Richard Chizmar’s Chasing the Boogeyman and conspiracy epics such as David Fincher’s Fight Club, Night of the Long Knives by Tyler Jones is a memorable, bleak, and haunting feature from Jones, a writer whose talent exudes from these pages.”

And Dave Simms over at Cemetery Dance Online was also kind enough to read the book and give a wonderful review. My thanks to Dave, as well.
“Night of the Long Knives harkens back to a Kolchak, X-Files, or Sinister vibe, which is a very good thing. It keeps the grief from swallowing Ferris whole while allowing his quest to remain focused. The further he delves into these events and the origins of the object he’s tasked to recover, the more everything begins to unravel. Despite him realizing all of this, he needs the answers. He craves some purpose for the random acts of brutality that stole everything from him.
It’s rare that a novel lingers this long in the reader’s psyche. Night of the Long Knives kills it. A late entry into the year’s best books.
Highly recommended.”

Looking ahead to next year, here’s what I have on deck so far:
January - Lethe Press will reissue my story collection Burn the Plans

Once again, my heartfelt thanks for all the support this year. And a special thank you to everyone who picked up one of the Turn Up the Sun: The Dark Room Series sets.
Until next time, look out for each other, and see you all in 2025.
Onward.
